We are so excited that you’re considering joining us on a sports mission trip to Costa Rica with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Costa Rica!
Location 1: Alajuela Province
Teams will fly into San José International Airport (SJO), located in Alajuela, Costa Rica. We provide a range of hotel options that adjust to your group’s budget and needs (details are in your trip information packet).
From this central location, we have multiple ministry partners available, including schools, sports organizations, food ministry, volleyball programs, and an orphanage.
Because there are so many opportunities here, we will work together with your group leader to design a schedule that matches your group’s strengths, ministry goals, and focus areas. Whether you want to emphasize sports clinics, discipleship, service projects, or a combination of all three, we will customize your experience so your time in Costa Rica is both effective and meaningful.

Adventure & Culture Experiences in Alajuela
While your primary focus will be ministry, every trip also includes opportunities to enjoy Costa Rica’s natural beauty and culture. Possible activities include:
- 1–2 Day Beach Trip (swimming, surfing lessons, team time)
- Visit Local Markets (explore Costa Rican crafts, food, and culture)
- Visit a National Park (hiking, wildlife, waterfalls, or volcanoes)
- Zip lining through the rainforest
- Pick-up games or sports exchanges with locals
- Professional sporting event (if schedule allows)
These experiences give you time to bond as a team, rest, and experience the beauty of God’s creation in Costa Rica.
Location 2: Guanacaste Province
Teams will fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR), located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This province is known for its hot, sunny weather and beautiful beaches.
In this region, FCA does not currently have full-time staff, but we partner with enthusiastic volunteers and a private high school that has a strong sports program.
Here, your group will spend the week primarily serving at the high school — joining classes, leading clinics, hosting huddles, and creating community events that draw in local youth. Since this location is in a beach town, your team will also have opportunities to explore the nearby coastal communities during your time in Guanacaste.
La Paz School
- Located in the North Pacific region of Costa Rica, La Paz School serves as a hub for youth education and development.
- FCA partners with character coaches who mentor students in leadership, sportsmanship, and faith.
- Your group will have the opportunity to serve in multiple ways, including:
- Running sports clinics to teach skills and build confidence
- Leading recreational activities for fun and engagement
- Hosting FCA huddles (small group devotionals)
- Participating in community outreach through sports camps and special events
